BSNL special tariff vouchers a big hit

A slew of special tariff vouchers (STV) introduced by State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) with “never before” data and talk time across BSNL and other networks in GSM pre-paid mobile segment had become a big hit among subscribers, said its Principal General Manager S.E. Rajam.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, Ms. Rajam said the BSNL Madurai and Virudhunagar telecom districts had been adding at least 800 subscribers every day ever since they were introduced on April 14.
“However, with the kind of benefits the consumers are getting, we expect around 2,000 new connections per day to be given,” she said.
BSNL-Madurai with 794 base transmission stations in the three districts of Madurai, Theni and Dindigul provided 3G services in major cities and towns with 250 towers.
With the old equipment that had lost their optimum transmission power to be replaced with better and newer equipment in the next six months, the “holes” in seamless connectivity would be set right, she said.
The new STVs catered to different needs of subscribers, such as talk time only, data only and talk time with data, at highly competitive prices.
Using the STV 333, data users could avail 3GB of data every day for 90 days. Combo STV 349 would give unlimited voice usage to any network with 2 GB data for 28 days.
“I am sure that, with the quality network and wider coverage even in remote areas, BSNL will be able to offset the revenue loss caused by the reduced tariff very soon. By patronising BSNL network, people can strengthen the hands of the State-run telecom major,” she said.
Free Wi-Fi
Besides, BSNL had provided free Wi-Fi services with a greater speed of 10 MBPS at Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple and Kodaikanal.
Similarly, Wi-Fi services would be given in 18 more locations of tourism importance and crowded places such as airports and bus stands, she said.
