Vihaan Networks (VNL) today announced that it has installed around 1,315 solar empanelled Wi-Fi towers in some of the remote villages in India. The deployment of the solar empanelled Wi-Fi towers in Left Wing Extremists (LWE) region of India was part of the government strategy to build a mobile phone network in the most-affected regions across 10 Indian states, wherein some places do not have power and roads.
The state-run telecom operator BSNL has installed towers at these locations giving network coverage to many villages as well as security forces camps and important locations with the help of domestic vendors Vihaan Networks and HFCL.
VNL and HFCL, the vendors of BSNL, have set up 2,199 solar-powered mobile communication towers in less than a year in these 10 states. India government has identified 106 districts across 10 states. These states include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
“We connected millions of rural consumers, through our efficient infrastructure and expertise in Solar enabled telecom equipments,” said Rajiv Mehrotra, chairman – Vihaan Network.
Through this project, VNL supported connectivity in 10 states, 90 districts, 12,700 villages, 3,900,000 mobile connections, 1.1 crore connected citizens connected and enabled security forces. DoT arm USOF funded the connectivity project. The total project cost was Rs 3,567 crore including Capex as well as O&M for a period of 5 years.
