Mobile Lok Adalat to tour district till October 21

 KOLHAPUR: The Mobile Lok Adalat - started with an aim to provide free legal aid and settle compoundable cases - will tour the villages from Kolhapur district until October 21.The functioning of mobile van was formally inaugurated on Monday on the premises of Shahaji Law College, near Dasara Chowk. The mobile court targets to settle at least 350 cases on a daily basis.


The van will be visiting all the 12 talukas in the district and is expected to settle maximum litigations. According to district legal authority officials, the drive will strengthen the concept of justice at doorsteps and help in spreading legal literacy along with providing speedy justice to the needy.

The aim of the mobile van is to provide free and legal aid to those belonging to lower strata of the society. The van will visit the villages in the Kolhapur district and organise Lok Adalats to resolve disputes on the spot.

Talking about the initiative, UV More, secretary of District Legal Service Authority (DSLA), said, "The van today (on Monday) covered Karveer taluka and will tour other villages in the district till October 21. It will be stationed at two villages in every taluka to settle litigations. The cases have been selected that will be put before the bench where both parties have agreed for mutual settlement."

He added, "All type of compoundable cases except criminal cases, cases related to motor vehicle Act, BSNL, Traffic, land dispute, domestic violence and matrimonial cases will be taken up for settlement."

A three-member bench comprising retired district judge GR Tanksale, lawyer VV Tate-Deshmukh and social activist H S Vanmore will be on panel to take up the cases for hearing and settlement, informed More.

The mobile court has set target of settling at least 350 cases on Monday.

The van will visit the villages in the Kolhapur district and organise lok adalats to resolve disputes on the spot.
