BSNL set to launch its 4.5G services

Hyderabad: Smartphones, tabs, and laptop users can soon enjoy uninterrupted 4.5G internet facility, as the State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is all set to launch 925 high-speed Wi-Fi access points across the State. According to Chief General Manager, Telangana Circle of BSNL, L Ananthram the Wi-Fi service will be provided through 121 hotspot zones in the State.

“Six such sites are operational at Maitrivanam, Kamineni Hospitals in Koti and LB Nagar, DTO Koti, RTC Hyderabad and Door Sanchar Bhavan in the city,” he said. “These hotspot zones will be provided with 4.5G speed internet, which is an upgrade from the existing 4G and LTE services offered by other telecom providers. The service would be commissioned in the next two months,” the official said, while addressing a press conference here on Monday.
He said that L&T has delivered all the equipment and the department is identifying the sites to fix the hotspots.
“Once customers switch on to Wi-Fi hotspot, they will be directly taken over to 4.5G internet speed. For that they have to subscribe to our plans,” Anantram said. BSNL 3G subscribers will get higher data speeds in these hotspot zones and faster downloads at 4G plus speeds will be possible. For prepaid subscribers of BSNL, charges will be deducted from their existing account.
The top official said that walk-in subscribers of BSNL and other operators will be taken to the Wi-Fi portal for recharging their account and one time registration whenever they approach the hotspot zone. “Existing Broadband customers can login with their username and password in the hotspot zone to get higher speed,” he said. Meanwhile, in a bid to counter other companies, the BSNL has launched three new plans, priced between Rs 333 and Rs 395.
