BSNL adds over 7 lakh mobile users in Punjab

State-owned BSNL has added more than 7 lakh mobile connections in the Punjab Circle in the financial year 2015-16, which resulted in increase of revenue from Rs 638 crore to Rs 684 crore.

This has also led to increase in the market share of BSNL Punjab Circle in mobile segment by 2% during 2015-16.


This was stated by RC Hooda, Chief General Manager, Punjab Circle, BSNL. Briefing about various initiatives, Hooda said BSNL in collaboration with its technology partner is providing Wi-Fi hotspots at various locations in Punjab and Chandigarh. At present, Wi-Fi has been provided at 17 locations and about 50 more locations are planned by this year-end.

He said New Technology exchanges in Punjab Circle were being replaced by the state-of-the-art New Generation Switches (NGN) which offer facilities like Fixed Mobile convergence, All India Centrex, MMVC (Multi Media Video Conferencing), having integrated internet facility etc.  In rural areas also, existing exchanges will be replaced by NGN switches during this year.

 Also, in mobile segment, BSNL Punjab Circle has added 1.75 lakh lines during 2015-16 by installing additional 241 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS). Another 1.35 Lakh lines will be added by March 2017.
