We will match Jio tariff-by-tariff, this was the open challenge state-owned BSNL had thrown down to Reliance Jio, only a few days after the latter debuted in the telecom sector with its free VoLTE calls and 4G data offers. And seeing the recent offers rolled by BSNL, it seems it can match up to Jio.
BSNL which is often seen as the dull player of the telecom sector, thanks to the government tag associated to it, has this time ditched its gentleman image. It has pulled up its socks for a rugged fight and is on a roll with exciting offers. The company rolled out several appealing offers like an unlimited 3G plan for Rs 1099 and free calls on Sunday. However, we feel if BSNL embraces these four changes, it could become the next happening name in telecom town.
Encash the interconnectivity: Yes, at present the biggest problem which Jio is facing is of network interconnectivity. Reportedly other mobile operators are not providing a sufficient number of interconnection points to Jio. BSNL just needs to see if its calls are quick in connection and better still, give better network coverage. We know its call service is good, but it should always aim for the best, right?
Poor customer care response: In one of our earlier reports we had talked about our experience that we faced in buying a BSNL nano SIM cards at few BSNL centres. We agree that BSNL is working on it, but a gentler response from the customer care executives and an easier SIM acquiring process can do magic, don’t you think so?
Free calls: News of BSNL planning to offer voice free tariff plans is already doing the rounds. The Jio-BSNL war will become more intense if this plan fructifies. Meanwhile, users can have a great time enjoy free calls on BSNL.
Poor signal: Last year BSNL lost over 5 lakh subscribers in the month of December in the Kerala circle. BSNL was demoted to the third spot after holding the second spot for a long span of time. While there could be several reasons at fault and many may also have been resolved by now, but one of the grounds in the list was towers offline during power outages. While the company has come a long way in dealing with its signal strength issues, it still needs to improve a lot.
