BSNL announces 10GB data per day with its new Rs 249 Unlimited Broadband plan

BSNL has announced a new broadband plan that offers 10GB data per day at just Rs 249 per month. BSNL's new Unlimited Broadband at 249 also offers unlimited calling but only during specific time periods during the day. The plan offers nearly three times more data than company's previous offering at a reduced price.

In a tweet, the company has confirmed that new plan will be throttled to 2Mbps speeds with FUP of 10GB per day. The plan offers unlimited calling on Sundays and unlimited night-time calling between 9PM to 7PM. The free calling is not limited to BSNL's own network but applies to any network. It is not clear whether existing users can switch to this plan but the company says new broadband users can get this offer by calling on toll free number 18003451500 or by visiting any BSNL customer service center.

The new broadband offer comes right after the state-run telecom company announced Rs 339 plan for mobile users. The Rs 339 plan gives 56GB data and unlimited calls between its own network and 25 minutes free on other network. BSNL has also started offering free 1GB data to non-internet users under its 'Digital India' initiative. BSNL's 'Unlimited Broadband at 249' offer is valid only till June 30, 2017.

With India's average broadband estimated to be 2.5Mbps and internet penetration still lower than global markets, the new plan should help more people connect to the internet. With ACT Fibernet recently launching India's first gigabit wired broadband service in Hyderabad, Spectranet expanding its services and Reliance Jio also planning 1Gbps FTTH service, the average broadband speed and internet usage is set to grow multifold this year.
