The Centre will invest 5,500 crore rupees in North East in telecom
infrastructure in the next two years.Talking to media in Guwahati this
evening,Telecom Secretary J S Deepak said that much thrust has been
given to improve the telecom scenario in North East.
He said that by the end of next year all Gram Panchayat of the country will be connected through optical fibre networking further said that North East is likely to achieve it ahead of other states.

He pointed that data flow was no
constraint in the region as the optic fibre network through the chicken
neck corridor through Siliguri has been supplemented with the internet
gateway through Bangladesh.
He said that Department of Telecom and
BSNL has given stress to work together with state government to speed
out connectivity projects.Chief Managing Director of BSNL Anupam
Srivastav said that BSNL is on revival phase and added that market share
of BSNL has been improved.
He said that over 1200 exchanges will be
set up in North East by next year. Mr.Srivastava said that BSNL will
invest 280 crore rupees in North East in 2017-18.
