BSNL plans to increase landline users in Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has set a target to register 3,000 landline users every month in Odisha to improve its declining landline customer base.
The BSNL has 2.97 lakh landline customers across the state. But the number was 3.15 lakh last year. "Customer base is decreasing in the state due to people depend on mobile phone most ofthe time. We have seen 5-6 per cent de-growth in this service," said BSNL Odisha circle chief general manager Satyananda Naik at a press conference here on Monday.

He said landline users in Bhubaneswar are increasing gradually. Now Bhubaneswar has 83,000 customers against 80,000 last year. "We have set a target to include 1000 new users in the city

every month to expand the sector," he added.


To attract new landline users, the BSNL has started introducing a promotional offer in which new customers can avail landline services at Rs 49 per month only. Under this scheme, fixed monthly

charges of Rs 49 will be charged for first six months. Apart from that, customers can enjoy unlimited free calling on all Sundays from its landline phones to all service providers' network with effect

from August 15.


Naik said BSNL is witnessing 20 per cent growth every year in mobile sector. "Now we have 41 lakh users in the state. We add 1.1 lakh to 1.3 lakh customers every month," he added.


To provide better service to customers, the government-owned telecommunications company will install 450 mobile network towers across the state. "We will take steps to address customers'

grievances regarding different services," said the CGM.


Naik said BSNL Odisha circle has witnessed 10-12 per cent growth last year. It has generated revenue of Rs 932 crore with a profit of Rs 41 crore during last financial year 2015-16. "We have set

a target to get Rs 1,000 crore this financial year with a good profit," he added.
